SOLAR MOONSHOT PROGRAM
Grants up to $25,000 are typically awarded, with grant amounts dependent on various factors, including the organization’s need for funding. Grant priority is given to solar projects that have additional funding sources and community support.
Grants for 2022 are made possible by Left Coast Fund and BQuest Foundation, and the program is managed by Hammond Climate Solutions Foundation. Learn more about the program's status and participants below!

"It has been an absolute pleasure working with Hammond Climate Solutions' Solar Moonshot Program. This is actually our 2nd project with Hammond Climate Solutions that from concept to completion took less than 3 months. In my nearly 15 years working with foundations, it is often a much-more drawn out process and the speed in which Hammond Climate Solutions has operated has been incredibly helpful and refreshing. Their staff are organized and easy to work with. I cannot thank them enough for bringing CAN and our communities closer to a sustainable future!"
"In our experience with Hammond Climate Solutions, who administer the Solar Moonshot Program, it became evident almost immediately that this is a wonderfully humane and unusually responsive group. Back in May of 2020, I submitted our application for a Solar Moonshot grant late on a Friday night. I was amazed to get a personal email response from Tara Hammond - not a form letter - less than 24 hours later - on the weekend! Everyone here in our co-op thinks they are wonderful."
"Solar Moonshot is the real deal. As a volunteer with Solar Ypsi I have worked with Solar Moonshot and Hammond on over a dozen Solar Moonshot projects over the past three years. Including a teen homeless shelter in New Mexico, a K-8 charter school in the heart of Detroit, and many more. Solar Moonshot is the model more donors and foundations should use to help support and grow solar usage in hard hit communities. Every project saves the receiving organization $2500 to $5,000 a year in electricity costs. That is money that goes right back into the community to support local youth, ministries, food programs, schools, and more. Solar Moonshot is a force multiplier that puts donated funds to immediate work in our communities. The application process is very simple while their management and monitoring of the entire process is streamlined and effective which means the dollars are spent wisely and the project is completed quickly. The Boggs [school in Detroit] was especially rewarding as the students raised 10% of the funds as a match through school based science projects. Parents and local donors then matched the money raised by the students. None of this would have been possible without Solar Moonshot."
"At Habitat for Humanity La Crosse Area in Wisconsin, we were extremely fortunate to work with Hammond Climate Solutions and Solar Moon Shot. We received a generous donation to complete the solar installation on our Habitat ReStore. This project covers 100% of our electrical usage and saves us money as a non-profit to do more towards our mission of making sure everyone has a safe and affordable place to call home. Applying to the program was very easy. The staff were kind, helpful, and completely committed to making an impact. We couldn't have completed this project without them!"
"Hammond Climate Solutions supported The Ecology Center's navigation of the Solar Moonshot Program's grant process which ultimately ended up in the installation of nearly 40kw of panels on our regenerative organic farm's barn. The team's commitment to innovation and impact in the renewable sector is truly impressive. We would be happy to recommend this program to any mission driven organization looking to deepen their relationship to sustainable energy."
"Solar Moonshot made it possible for Solidarity Farm at Pauma Tribal Farms to install sufficient solar to energize our entire operation! Not only did this help us make progress towards our carbon reduction targets, it seriously minimized our energy bills! This program illustrates that by working together as a community, we can implement climate solutions that benefit our economy, the health of the environment, and our future sustainability."
"On behalf of the Wilmington Jaycees Foundation, Inc. I would like to express our thanks to Left Coast Fund for the $25,000 grant that was needed to complete our Solar Moonshot Program. Hammond Climate Solutions managed the project funding. The grant was used to reroof the area used for the solar panel installation. The grant application was straight forward and turn-around time was great. With the solar installation we now have a savings of about $1500 per month that we can reprogram into more services for the Senior Citizen population that we service. Again, much thanks goes to Hammond Climate Solutions for making this happen."
"Working with Hammond Climate Solutions' Solar Moonshot Program is a wonderful resource for our non-profit organization. The grant from Hammond Climate Solutions partnering with other like-minded grantors had amazing results. Based on their generosity our Viroqua location that houses multiple prevention, early intervention and treatment programs will overtime be able to self-sustain our energy footprint and allow us to funnel money and resources back into our programs. The sun is shining brighter on the futures of our clients thanks to the Hammond Climate Solutions Team."

Completing this questionnaire does not imply a grant request is approved. Grants with near-term installation plans will receive priority as it's the goal of the Solar Moonshot Program to get as much solar installed as quickly as possible to help mitigate the climate crisis.
